Hopefully Everything You Need To Know

Image
Congratulations!  You have just bought a beautiful Great Pyrenees. You’re excited and  maybe a little scared. That’s okay! Here are a few things to get you  started and help understand your dog better. It is best to know these  things before hand, so that if your dog does something you weren’t  counting on it doing, you will be able to recognize and correct the  problem.  As we like to say; there are no bad dogs, just undisciplined dog  owners.  If you treat your Great Pyrenees in a consistent manner and  give it security within the pecking order of the pack (your family),   your dog will become well behaved and be a joy in a short period of  time.  About the Breed:  Great Pyrenees are one of the oldest dog breeds in the world.  They were  bred as dogs of war and then used during peace-time as sheep guarding  dogs.   Great Pyrenees are one of the least aggressive of the large  guardian dogs (LGD), so often people cherish them as family dogs. They  are regal, independent and aloof com

Homemade Tick Shampoos

The best approach to dealing with ticks on dogs and cats is to first  start with gentler, natural and least toxic products. If these do not  work, then it makes sense to take the chemical-approach to achieve  complete control over the parasites. In this guide, we will discover  several home made shampoos for pets which are safe, non toxic yet highly  effective. These ‘tearless’ products will leave your pet’s fur soft,  shiny and smelling great while also repelling ticks and fleas. Remember:  even baby shampoos made for human babies are of the wrong pH for dogs  and cats-so avoid using them on the pets. Also products made  specifically for dogs should not be used for cats and vice a versa.  Why use homemade dog shampoo for fleas and ticks and homemade flea and tick shampoo for cats? Many over-the-counter shampoos are filled with toxic chemicals that  can harm your pet as well as children or elderly members in your family.  Several of these chemicals are known to be especially dangerous

History of Great Pyrenees

Learn about what makes them so GREAT! Dog of the Mountains These dogs take their name from the mountain range in  southwestern Europe, where they long have been used as guardians of the  flocks. In the United States they are called Great Pyrenees. In the  United Kingdom and on the continent of Europe, they are known as the  Pyrenean Mountain Dog. In their native France, they are Le Chien de  Montagne des Pyrenees or Le Chien des Pyrenees. Whatever the name, it is  a beautiful, primarily white dog with a "certain elegance" which for  centuries has been the working associate of peasant shepherds high on  the mountain slopes. The breed likely descended from a group of principally white  mountain flock guard dogs that originated ten or eleven thousand years  ago in Asia Minor. It is very plausible that these large white dogs  arrived in the Pyrenees Mountains with their shepherds and domestic  sheep about 3000 BC.  In  the isolation of the Pyrenees Mountains over these millenniu

Dr Andrew Jones, DVM Many  of the common diseases in our dogs and cats have an autoimmune basis-  the immune system responds innappropriately and actually "attacks"  itself.. Great Pyrenees in Popular Culture!

"Belle", from Cécile Aubry's novel "Belle et Sébastien" (adapted several times for film and television), is a Great Pyrenees.     The 2004 film "Finding Neverland" used a Great Pyrenees to represent J. M. Barrie's Landseer Newfoundland dog.     In the television series "King of Queens" a Great Pyrenees is a recurring customer of Holly the dog walker.     In the 1965 film "Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines", a Great Pyrenees is the household dog at the Lord Rawnsley estate.     In the Marx Brothers' "Horse Feathers", a Great Pyrenees appears in the dog catcher's wagon.     In the Korean variety show "Happy Sunday" - "1 Night 2 Days", Sang Geun, a Great Pyrenees, is the mascot of the show and recently appointed as "Nation's Pet".     A popular Korean singer, Hero Jaejoong from TVXQ, owns a Great Pyrenees named Vick.     In the 2009 Disney film "Santa Buddies&qu

This is a must read re-posting from ONLY NATURAL PET.  We at Harmony Acres Farms Support a natural way of doing things. Enjoy  Written by: Dr. Jean Hofve, Holistic Veterinarian, DVM     Nothing seems to pull at the  heart strings as powerfully as a puppy or kitten. That adorable little  bundle of fur, however, comes with a BIG bundle of responsibilities.  Though the first six months are the most intense, the responsibility of  guardianship lasts for the lifetime of your pet – 15 to 20 years. Are  you prepared? Here are some helpful tips for starting off on the right  "paw" with your new best friend and a list of essentials to have on  hand. Selecting "The One" While a majority of people say their cat just "showed up" - and if  one shows up for you, please take it as the honor that it is! - we  typically exercise a little more choice when it comes to dogs.  Researching breed characteristics is a must. From One of Our Puppies

Dear Mom (Serenity) and Dad (Kody), I am really enjoying my life here with Brenda, Steve and Maggie! I'm learning so much and having fun doing it. We go on walks, trips to Tractor Supply and I love everyone I meet. The cats in our house still don't want to play me, and I don't think they like me very much, but like Jesus I just turn the other cheek and love them anyway :)Momma Brenda always tells me what a good boy I am and she gives the best snuggles. I'm eating really well and trying new things all the time. I like when she adds pumpkin, Greek yogurt and bone broth to my kibble and I always clean my plate. Maggie and I don't eat together yet, but maybe one day we will. We went to see my nice doctor the other day to finish up my vaccinations and he put a microchip in me in case I get lost. He said I'm perfect in every way (momma Brenda says that too ;)And I weigh 60 pounds now! Here are some new pictures of Maggie and I. Not only is she a wonderful big sister,
